Custom Passage Typing Test

Paste or type any text of your own, pick a duration, and get live WPM, accuracy and mistake tracking on exactly the content you want to practice.

Set Up Your Custom Test

Paste or type the text you want to practice below. Works in any language or script.

0 characters — at least 40 needed to start.

  • The timer starts the moment you type your first character.
  • Backspace is on by default — turn it off during the test for stricter accuracy practice.
  • Copy-paste and right-click are disabled inside the typing box itself (paste your passage above before starting).
  • Your passage isn't saved or sent anywhere — it only exists in your browser for this session.

Best on a desktop or laptop keyboard.

What This Is For

Every other test on this site draws from a fixed set of passages, matched to a specific exam's format. This tool flips that around: bring your own text — a paragraph from your coaching material, a passage in a language this site doesn't have a built-in test for yet, an email you type often at work, or anything else you specifically want to build speed and accuracy on — and get the same live WPM, accuracy and mistake tracking as every other test here.

How Scoring Works

This tool uses the same underlying engine as every other typing test on this site: key depressions, gross and net WPM, and full/half mistake classification based on word-level comparison against your original passage. Since there's no fixed exam behind a custom passage, there's no pass/fail verdict — just your raw numbers, the same ungraded approach used in open practice mode.

Works in Any Language

Paste text in English, Hindi, or any other language and script — the word-comparison logic works on Unicode text generally, not just Latin script. This makes it a reasonable stand-in for practicing a language this site doesn't yet have a dedicated test for.

Yes — a short minimum (around 40 characters) is enforced so the test produces a meaningful WPM and accuracy reading. Longer passages, matched to your chosen duration, give more reliable results.

Yes — paste text in any language or script, and the test will track your key depressions, WPM and word-level accuracy the same way it does for English.

No — everything happens locally in your browser for this session only. Your custom passage isn't saved, uploaded, or shared.

I built CGLTyping while preparing for SSC CGL myself, after every typing site I tried measured plain WPM instead of what SSC actually scores. Every exam fact here is checked against the current official notification rather than copied from another blog — if something looks out of date, tell me and it gets fixed.
