SSC CGL typing test accuracy and DEST error rules

Do not confuse SSC error percentage with a website accuracy score

CGL Typing shows WPM, net WPM, accuracy, and error counts to help you train. Those are practice metrics. SSC evaluates the official DEST using its own instructions and the qualifying standards published for that examination cycle.

The notice also describes a passage of about 2,000 key depressions in 15 minutes. It does not replace the error standard with a universal WPM or browser-accuracy score.

Why accuracy still matters even when the allowed error limit looks high

The published percentages are maximum qualifying limits, not sensible practice targets. Cleaner typing protects your rhythm, reduces time lost to correction, and gives you more room if the passage becomes difficult.

For posts where SSC applies higher DEST standards, the final cut-off can be stricter than the normal category limit. Train for repeatable clean runs instead of trying to sit exactly on the published maximum.

How to improve SSC CGL typing accuracy

1. Reduce speed briefly. Type at a controlled pace until repeated errors stop appearing.
2. Review error patterns. Separate missed characters, extra characters, substitutions, spacing, and punctuation mistakes.
3. Practise full paragraphs. DEST requires sustained reading and typing, not isolated word bursts.
4. Read slightly ahead. Keep your eyes ahead of your fingers so awkward words do not break rhythm.
5. Run full 15-minute checks. Accuracy in minute two is less useful if it collapses near the end.
